Okay,
I've finished my recap to TNA Genesis which I wrote while I was
watching it, so I apologise in advance for any spelling or grammer
errors.... It's 2:50am now, so I'm too tired to correct them... hope
it's okay though....
TNA - Genesis PPV 10th Jan 2010
Mike Tenay and Taz welcome us to the first TNA PPV of 2011
X Division Title: Jay Lethal Vs Kazarian
There is no way I can keep up with the all moves in this match, but here are some random highlghts……..
Suicide dive by Lethal onto Kazarian on the outside…before an amazing
moonsault from the ring apron to Kaz.....Back in the ring, Perfect back
suplex by Lethal
….. Kazarian recovers and hits a nice spinebuster and then a textbook gutwrench suplex and springboard leg drop…
Lethal hits a Randy Savage-like hangman.... Kazarian slingshots Lethal
back into the ring and catches him with a great neck breaker on his way
back in from the slingshot.....
Lethal hits a sunset flip powerbomb
from the top rope on Kazarian and a beautiful enzuguri into his
backbreaker / facebuster combination.
Lethal goes for a piledriver,
which is almost reversed into a tombstone, but Kaz gets backdropped...
Kaz hits a springboard DDT on Lethal inside the ring
Great series of chops by Lethal and he hits a picture-perfect suplex on Kaz.... I could watch these guys all day....
Lethal to the top rope but Kaz stops him with a flying enzuguri and
goes for a reverse tombstone from the top... which is blocked by
Lethal....
Kaz hits the ropes and Lethal is crotched on the
turnbuckles before Kaz hits the Reverse Tombstone Pilsdriver on Lethal
and becomes the new X Division Champion.
Great match to start
the show... I would have liked them to have more time, but I'm looking
forward to further matches between them.
Eric Bischoff is
in his office backstage with Flair and Styles. Eric tells Styles he
can't work the show with one leg... Styles is mad, but Flair tells him
to leave the office....
TNA Knockout Title Match: Madison Rayne Vs Mickie James
Mickie cartwheels away from Madison's early offence and takes control
of the match with a wrist lock... Madison reaches the ropes to break the
hold.... crowd starts a "You Can't wrestle" chant... which I think is a
bit premature...
both of these women can wrestle...
Mickie
hits a hard dropkick to Madison and a hurricanrana... Madison hits a
facebuster on Mickie and holds her in a chinlock... Mickie tries to
fight out, but is sent to the mat by her hair... Mickie comes back with a
sunset flip but is cut off by Madison who tries her
leg
scissor headknocker move, but it's reversed into a wheelbarrow suplex...
Mickie spanks Madison in the ropes and hits a hangman neckbreaker...
Mickie hits a Lou Thesz press from the top rope and is about to hit a
DDT, but Tera's music plays which
distracts Mickie and the
referee... Inside the ring, Madison slides on an MMA-looking loaded
glove without the ref seeing and she gets the 3 count on Mickie to
retain the Title.
This was a good knockout match, not the best, but
obviously a lot better than any WWE Divas match I've seen in a long time
(maybe years).
Backstage, Eric Bischoff tells Christie Hemme
that a highly motivated Abyss will take AJ Style's place and will be
facing Doug WIlliams tonight....
TNA Tag Team Champions: Motor City Machineguns Vs Beer Money
Mike Tenay says that Beer Money and Motor City Machineguns participated
in the best series of matches in the history of pro wrestling (last
year) .... And I can't argue with him at all....
Looking forward to this match....
Once again, probably no way I can keep up with all the moves in this match, so here are some highlights....
Shelly and Roode start with some chain wrestling, James storm enters
the ring and MCMG double team him with a dropkick / neckbreaker /
sliding dropkick combo and some other double team moves.... Sabin
springboards off Shelly and hits Storm with a drop
kick.... double suicide dive to the outside onto Beer Money....
Shelly goes for the double stomp off the rope to Storm, but misses,
sliced bread reversed and Roode hits a clothesline on Shelly to turn the
tide of the match. Facebuster into a clothesline by Sotorm
DOuble
shoulderblock into a double knee drop by Roode onto Shelly... Roode
hits his Mr Perfect-style necksnap on Shelly and Storm wears him down in
a camel clutch
Sabin unintentionally distracts the ref, but Beer
Money's double team move backfires and Shelly hits the Sliced Bread on
James Storm... Before he can make the tag, Roode pulls Sabin from the
corner and Beer Money stay in control of the match
Legdrop by Roode
for a 2 count and Roode slaps on a chinlock.... Shelly fights out .....
Beer Money keep tagging and double-teaming Shelly.... Shelly manages to
fight back, sends Storm to the outside and finally gets the hot tag...
Sabin in and hits some amazing
offensive moves including a
tree of woe on Roode and a suplex to Storm onto Roode.... Hurricanrana
from the top rope and an assited DDT on Roode.... James breaks up the
count...
Roode gets hits with a Springboard clothesline by Sabin and
a double footstomp from the top rope by Shelly... Storm in the ring and
hits the backstabber.... Sabin hits an enzurguri on Storm, misses the
same on Roode. Storm spits beer in the eyes on Sabin, into
a
well executed spinebister on Sabin for a 2 count..... MCMG hit some
great offence on Beer Money including a double boot into Roode int he
corner, the neckbreaker / crossbody combination...
Shelly hits a
crossbody to the outside on Storm... Sabin foes for a springboard DDT
onto Robert Roode, which is reversed into a beautifulo Northern Lights
Suplex
James Stoem hits a Last Call Superkick and they follow up
with a neckbreaker / Powerbomb combination for a 2 count.... After a
series of back suplex attempts by all guys, Sabin accidentally nails
Shelly with a big boot and Roode rolls up Sabin for the 3 count
Great match. I haven't really been able to do the match justice with my
recap.... This is hard work trying to a TNA PPV.... WWE shows are
really, really easy... I can just write "Punch... Punch... Kick...
Clothesline..." get myself a drink, make a sandwich and then
get back to reacapping without missing anything easily... "punch, punch,
kick, resthold.... comedy spot.... finisher... pinfall.." TNA is hard
work to recap because these guys are actually working..... OMG!
Devon Vs Bully Ray is up next....
I'm looking forward to this. I remember when Bubba came into the
Original ECW as a face and Devon was a heel Dudley who would beat down
the stuttering Bubba.... This match is pretty much 15 years in the
making..... Awesome....
I'm going to call Bully Ray "Bubba" during this recap....
Bubba tries to sheild himself with So Cal Val, but Devon gets hold of
Bubba and sends him into the steel barricade and beats him around the
ringside area. Breaks what looks like a drinking glass over Bubba's head
and they make it into the ring...
Bubba plays possom "we're
brothers, man!"... before he goes for the low blow, but Devon blocks the
blow and hits a flying clothesline on Bubba. Lou Thesz press by Devon
before picking up bubba and slamming him, Bubba goes to the outside, but
Devon
stays on him.... Bubba tries to escape through the
crowd, but Devon catches him and irish whips him into the stage wall
face-first and they exchange punches in the crowd. A fan gives Devon his
sneaker and Devon nails Bubba with it a few times and sends
him back to the ring..... Double axe handle by Bubba onto Devon
getting back into the ring. Bubba beats down Devon and hits a
clothesline in the corner. goes for another, but Devon catches him
coming in with an elbow. Devon comes from the top rope, but
Bubba catches him in the Bubba Cutter for a 2 count... Misses an elbow
drop and Devon hits a massive spinebuster for a 2 count.... Devon goes
to the top rope, but bubba hits the rops and crotches him before some
brutal chops and a superplex from the top
rope for a 2
count..... Bubba misses Devon with a chain and Devon fires back with
some clotheslines and a backdrop. Devin gets the chain from Bubba and
whips him with it to get disqualified. Referees jump in the ring to try
and stop Devon from beating
Bubba with the chain. While Devon
is being restrained by the referees, Bubba jumps him and they continue
brawling, while the ring fills up with officials to stop them... Bubba
gets in swift kick low blow to Devon and exits the ring....
Jeff Jarrett tells Kurt that he is undefeated in MMA and will teach him a
lesson later tonight in their MMA exhibition match.....
Abyss Vs Doug WIlliams....
Doug Williams goes for a sunset flip from the outside, but Abyss gets
out.... Doug is selling a hand injury (he has his hand bandaged up)
Abyss works on the hand and Doug Williams is selling his hand injury
while Abyss slams his hand into the steps outside....
Doug gets
caught coming off the top rope and almost gets a chokeslam... Big boot
by Abyss sends Doug to the outside where he works on him and sends him
back into the ring and continues the beat down with punches and chops...
Doug fires back with a
kick, knee lift and a flying forearm
from the ropes. Big flying knee into the corner and hits an impressive
back suplex on Abyss. Doug goes to the top rope and hits Abyss with his
big knee drop...
Abyss catches Doug Williams in a big Chokeslam to turn the tide in the match, but Doug gets to the ropes before the 3 count.
Abyss reaches under the ring and gets Janice (The nail-covered
board)... referee stops Abyss from bringing it into the ring.... AJ
Styles rolls into the ring and nails Doug with the TV Title behind the
referee's back. Abyss gets back into the ring and hits the
Black Hole Slam on Doug to become TV Champion....
Backstage, RVD tells Eric that he doesn't care about who his opponent
is tonight but he wants Hardy... Eric tells RVD if he wants Hardy, he
can have hardy right now, in the ring..... RVD heads to the ring....
Matt Hardy debuts!
ROb Van Dam Vs Matt Hardy
Matt Hardy tried to shake Rob's hand, but he's not interested..... Matt nails RVD with his reverse sidewalk slam...
RVD hits a monkeyflip, springboard kick and a few spinning kicks to
Matt and sends him outside.... Matt tries to re-enter, but RVD hits a
drop kick and a perfect moonsault to Matt on the outside from the
apron...
RVD sends Matt back into the ring and hits a perfect high
crossbody on Matt... Matt tries to hit the Twist Of Fate, but it's
reversed and Matt Hardy hits a snap german suplex to RVD neck-first into
the turnbuckles before a clothesline into the corner and a spike
bulldog. Hardy slaps on a full nelson but RVD almost kicks his way out
before a full nelson face-first drop by Hardy. Matt wears down RVD and
nails a backbreaker, but is caught coming from the top rope by an RVD
kick. Both guys exchange right hands
before Matt continues to
beat down RVD.... Nice Kick by RVD and diving body leg scissors into a 2
count... Clotheslines by RVD and beautiful outside crescent kick and
another spin kick by RVD. Rob hits a nice corkscrew dropkick for a 2
count. Small package
by Hardy gets a 2 count. Inverted Atomic
drop into a top rope thrust kick by Rob. Rolling Thunder into a 5 Star
Frog Splash for a 2 count as Matt has his hand under the bottom
rope.....
Hardy recovers and hits a Twist of Fate on RVD and the
referee counts to 3, even though Rob has his foot under the bottom
rope...
Matt Hardy wins the match and goes to the back...
Backstage Kurt Angle says if Jarrett wants to know what kind of shape he is in, he should ask his wife....
MMA Exhibition Match.....
Jarrett tries to avoid Angle, so Angle lays down on the mat and
challenges Jarrett to come close... Jeff is very weary and manages to
stay out of Angle's way for most of the first round. Angle gets a
takedown on Jarrett and a chokehold / sleeper just as the
first round ends....
Second Round.... Angle offers his leg to Jarrett, Jeff goes for it, but
Angle reverses into a Key lock on Jarrett and lets him go.... Angle
takes him down again and slaps on a few different choke variations and
lets Jarrett go to continue the exhibition.... Arm
breaker by
Angle released..... Angle lock on Jeff and the second round ends.....
Jarrett spits at Angle between rounds, but can barely stand up, selling
the effects of the anklelock.
Jarrett's cornermen (Gunner &
Murphy) spread a liquid on Jarrett's forearm, which is supposed to be
making Angle hazy in the third round... Bad camera angle, as they catch
Angle getting a blade out of a piece of paper and blading... Jarrett
jumps on angle and
nails him with right hands... the Exhibition is stopped....
I'm a big fan of Angle and I would also call myself a fan of Jeff - I
would even say that I like they are using a real life issue and
incorporating it into the storyline, but this whole exhibition match was
a waste of both talents.
Why Angle would blade after a "Mysterious
Substance" was smeared on Jarrett's forearm made no sense and the whole
thing was really wasting the potential of this feud. This should have
been on Impact, if they had to do it at all. Crazy.
Waste of time and waste of talent.... head shaking time.....
Backstage, Jeff Hardy says that "Anything can happen in TNA".....
Matt Morgan Vs Mr Anderson for No.1 Contendership
During the early going, Morgan misses his Carbon Footprint and ends up
outside the ring where Anderson goes to work on him, Anderson caught
trying a lou thesz press from the ring on the outside and Morgan rams
him into the cornerpost and sends him
back first into the ring
apron... Back inside the ring, both guys exchange blows... Morgan hits
the Carbon footprint for a 2 count.... Anderson hits the Mic check on
Morgan for a 2 count....
Anderson gets a small package on Morgan and gets the 3 count to become No.1 Contender....
Eric Bischoff comes to the ring and says that Anderson is No.1 contender, but he has to have his match with Jeff right now....
Jeff comes to the ring in his jeans, shirt and tie and takes advantage
of a tired Mr Anderson but Anderson fights back.... Hits Hardy with the
Gut Check, but Jeff recovers quickly and nails Anderson with a
clothesline before he calls Matt Hardy to the ring...
RVD cuts
him off and battles backstage with him. Eric Bischoff slides in the
ring with a chair to hit Anderson, but Anderson cuts him off and hits
the Mic Check on Eric... Jeff in the ring but also gets caught in the
Gut Check and Mr Anderson becomes the new TNA World Champion...
Overall I thought it was a great event - Especially the first 2 hours.
The Angle / Jarrett "match" was not good and Anderson / Morgan as well
as Anderson / Hardy were not great, but they served a purpose...
The Angle / Jarrett feud is heating up and now Mr Anderson is the World
Champion - with Matt Morgan ready to step up as a contender and now RVD
can feud with Matt Hardy, now that Jeff may have to face jail time...
Definitely a lot better than anything I have seen in WWE for years and
the show is well worth checking out - especially for the first 2 hours,
which I thought really were great.
