Smack Down 13 / Jan / 2011 Thoughts By David Damage
Alberto / Cody / Mysterio / R-Truth / Teddy Long come to the ring to
arrange the first match because god forbid someone actually arranges the
matches on Smack Down before the event starts... I'm really bored of
this format....
R-Truth & Mysterio Vs Cody & Alberto
All four guys worked well and had a good match to start the show.
Mysterio scored the pinfall on Cody Rhodes after the 610 / Top Rope Splash combo
Drew McIntyre Vs Trent Berretta
It's good to see Trent on Smack Down rather than Superstars... It's
pretty much an enhancement match for Drew, until Trent gets the quick
win after reversing a gorilla press into a surprise sunset flip pinfall.
I thought Drew looked good, but it was good to see Trent getting the pinfall.
Backstage, Drew attacks Trent but Kelly Kelly walks by and sees him, so
he leaves Trent and apologises to Kelly. Kelly tells Drew to "Grow up"
Wade Barrett Vs Big Show
This is the fastest I've ever seen Wade move around the ring before...
Tries to work on Big Show's left leg at the start of the match but Big
Show fights him off and goes for a chokeslam... Heath Slater &
Justin Gabriel enter the ring to attack Big Show, but he knocks them
down. Ahmed Johnson 2.0 / Ezekiel Jackson stands on the apron which
distracts Show before they are all able to take him out. Ezekiel gets
Big Show up for a slam. Gabriel hits the 450 plash and the New Nexus
stand victorious in the ring.
Do we really need a Nexus on Raw
and a different Nexus on Smack Down? Hopefully one of them come up with
at least a new name for their group.
Michelle McCools music hits... Fast Forward.... Michelle Vs Beth
I feel bad for Beth, because I'm sure she could have great matches with
Trish or Victoria if they were still in WWE or even Gail Kim or Nattie
who are in WWE now, but they keep putting her in the ring with skinny
dumb women who can't work, like Michelle, Layla, Kelly etc so we've
never really been able to see just how good Beth can be.
Thankfully Beth won the 4 minute match... I hope WWE do something about
their Women's "Diva" division. Maybe even call them women instead of
Divas and start employing women who know how to work.
There
are tons of very talented and tough women wrestlers on the Indies and
it's pretty disrespectful that WWE build their whole division around 2
women who have no idea what they are doing and have 2 left feet - just
because the skinny blonde one is Undertaker's ring rat / wife and the
other one is her friend.... There is a good reason why they both failed
the awful Diva Search - and they haven't improved at all since then.
It's only a matter of time before they accidentally injure themselves,
or more importantly - someone else.
Michelle used to be a
kindergarten teacher, so she's qualified to teach children how to stick
their palms in paint and made hand prints onto paper... Credit to her
for sleeping her way to the top of the WWE, I guess....
Kofi Kingston Vs Jack Swagger
Great work as always be these two...Great moves, counters and
everything made sense and looked good. Kofi won the match with an SOS.
Sure we've seen these guys work against eachother about 12 times in the
last couple of months, but when it produces results like this, I don't
really mind that at all. I'd be happy to see them work together more.
Generally, I still think the roster split is a bad thing because it
means that we get the same matches over and over and over again.
Edge's Cutting Edge Segment with Dolph Ziggler & Vicky Guerrero
I think Edge & Ziggler can both have great promos and matches with
eachother, but there is no need for Vicky to be the centre of attention.
I wish she never came back.... How ropey is the "I've arranged a video
to played on the Titan Tron" thing that WWE do all the time?
To me,
this is a great example of WWE taking 2 great talents who I am a fan of
and making me uninterested in what they are doing.
Vicky slaps Edge
a few times and Edge considers hitting her with a Spear before Dolph
pulls Edge outside the ring and hits a brutal Zig-Zag on Edge into the
Steel steps...
Dolph kisses Vicky to end the show....
