Stone Cold interviewed by Kevin Sullivan

While continuing to clean out my Stone Cold Steve Austin interview notebook used during the WWE Championship Project, I came across The Rattlesnake’s thoughts on working with “Iron” Mike Tyson. During the build to WrestleMania XIV, the boxing great continually incorrectly identified Austin as “Cold Stone” and opposed to “Stone Cold.” Here’s Austin’s take on the situation:

Were you offended that Mike Tyson couldn’t get your name right?

Mike Tyson has taken a lot of good shots, and he’s delivered a lot of good shots. If he screwed up my name, I just think it was how some people get caught in the mode of saying something one way and it sticks with them. I don’t think it was any disrespect to me. I think that’s how it was wired in his brain to call me “Cold Stone.” He probably got it in his head, but it came out different verbally. It didn’t really bother me because any time somebody calls you something that isn’t your name and is clearly wrong, it provides you with instant material. I always welcomed him calling me that because I always had something to say about it.

I enjoyed working with Mike Tyson. And he’s actually more of a historian of the professional wrestling business than half the boys. He really enjoys it, knows a lot about all the World Championship and how the business has come along. He’s somewhat of a student of the game; he was a big fan of the people in the business and that’s what I always respected. I really enjoyed the few times I got to work with Mike Tyson.
