Buff Bagwell suffered a broken neck in two places as well as a crushed nose, broken jaw (which is wired shut) and broken cheekbone. They plan to do neck surgery once the swelling goes down. They are keeping him sedated until the most serious injuries can be taken care of.
According to TMZ, Bagwell called his wife, thinking he was about to have a seizure. Bagwell's wife called 911 stating Buff had recently had a change in medication. He started a new medication to fight off a "bacteria" that was in his system due to another medication. Bagwell's wife told the 911 operator, "He's trying to cut back on pain pills, and maybe that's what's causing [the seizure]"
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
WCW wrestler Marcus "Buff" Bagwell, 42, was injured in a serious car accident on Tuesday, according to the Twitter account of the Atlanta, Georgia-based independent promotion Universal Championship Wrestling. UCW adds that Bagwell was admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU).
Buff has been in rough shape in recent months and had been "detoxing" at the time of today's accident. Numerous friends of Buff have been worried about his condition for quite some time now. Buff has been doing things to "score pills", including injuring himself on purpose. "I wouldn't be shocked if he did it to get more Rx". When told that seemed pretty crazy that he'd do something like that, the source, who is very close friends with Buff, replied: "Uve never met him then ....".
Buff no-showed an indy event several weeks ago and blamed it on a car accident. He was replaced by Raven at that event.
Buff went through a windshield during the wreck this morning. He's currently in ICU with multiple face lacerations.
TMZ spoke with Judy Bagwell, who provided the good news that Buff Bagwell is finally breathing and eating on his own. She said that the former WCW superstar was hooked up to a breathing tube while emergency room doctors focused on treating the injuries to his face and spine.
Judy had more news to report, including that Buff was contacted by some of his friends in WCW, including Scott and Rick Steiner, Diamond Dallas Page and Sting. "The breathing tube was removed on Wednesday ... he is talking ... he's eating solid foods. [Doctors] were really shocked that he was communicating so soon ... he's a fighter. It's really helped that he's been contacted by friends ... he's really feeling the love."
Bagwell suffered a seizure behind the wheel of his Jeep, causing it to flip.
