Matt Hardy Out Of Jail
Pro wrestler Matt Hardy got a break in court Monday morning.
Despite prosecution objections, District Court Judge Robert Wilkins reduced Hardy’s bond from $1 million to $100,000 on condition he be released only to treatment for substance abuse. He has been released after posting the bond.
“This was done over the state's objection,” said District Attorney Maureen Krueger.
Wilkins set as a condition of his bond reduction that Hardy continue in, and complete, his treatment. Otherwise, his bond will go back up, though only to $250,000 — a quarter of the original amount set by the magistrate last week after Hardy was kicked out of rehabilitation following a failed Breathalyzer test.
Authorities arrested the WWE and TNA wrestling star and charged him with violation of a court order. Hardy was booked into the Moore County jail on a $1 million secured bond.
Multiple wrestling websites began reporting Hardy was expelled from his rehab program Nov. 18 after he failed the breath test. Members of the rehabilitation center staff administered the test after they became suspicious of Hardy’s behavior, according to TMZ.com.
At the time, Hardy, 37, had about a month left to complete that program. Conditions of his previous release had set a $1 million bond were he not to complete treatment. TMZ reported that Hardy said he wasn’t drinking and had failed the test because he’d just used mouthwash.
