Mick Foley:
"Yes, I am setting up a pretty decent auction, with 100% (minus mailing
costs) going to help out Vermonters suffering in the wake of flooding
caused by Hurricane Irene. This might not be my very best stuff, like
the Cactus Jack leopard boots and Hell in a Cell shirt, since that type
of auction reminds me of Daffy Duck playing the harp, having emerged the
victor in the big bump contest with
Bugs Bunny – acknowledging Bugs’s accolades; sadly saying “I know, I
know, but I can only do it once” on his way up to heaven. Still, this is
going to be a good auction; it’s going to raise some money for some
people who really need it, and it’s going to show the wrestling
community in a favorable light – which is always important to me. With
the exception of a couple of big items, like the Survivor Series
vacation package, most of these items should come in under the $100
mark, making them a possibility for far more fans. Wait, check that –
the historic Foley Juggalos ICP jersey I wore for this past Gathering
might bring in some serious cash. One might have to be a Big Money
Hustla just to get his/her hands on it! Yeah, I know, that was weak.
This pretty decent auction is a small part of a much larger fund-raiser
that Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are holding on October 9th in
Burlington, Vt., with the hope of raising $100,000 for those in need of
help in her home state. People who follow me on Twitter probably know I
am a huge fan of Grace and the Nocs, but despite my enthusiasm as a fan
of their music, I was most struck upon meeting them by what a kind and
genuinely caring group of people they are. I think this gesture from us
wrestling people will mean a lot to them..and IT meaning a lot to THEM
will mean a lot to ME…and IT meaning a lot to ME, might mean a lot to
THEM. I think you get the picture. For more about Grace, the band, or
the Vermont fund-raiser, go to @gracepotter or www.gracepotter.com
I’m not going to donate the money through Missionfish this time, even
though the RAINN auction went very smoothly, and I liked having the
charity icon and the credibility that Missionfish afforded us. But there
were extra charges involved, and the transactions took a month to get
to RAINN. With this auction, I want to be able to simply write a check
for the exact amount we bring in (minus those mailing costs) and have it
where it needs to be as quickly as possible. I hope that by this point,
I have enough credibility to be trusted to do the right thing when I
say I will – besides, I’ll put a photo of the official bank check up on
Twitter or the website. So got to…My daughter Noelle will be running
this auction for me and might still be slightly shaken from witnessing
that “I Quit” match with @TheRock , so cut her some slack. Unlike last
month’s home visit contest, this is not a raffle, though I will
definitely be taking part in some big raffles in the future – one of
which I hope will be a dream vacation to WrestleMania. But the cool
thing about auctions is that if you really want something, there’s
nothing but money and common sense holding you back from getting that
item. So bid high, bid often, win big, and help some people who need it
badly.
Hey, speaking of websites: I am so happy with my
new one – it’s made life so much easier for fans/friend/followers/former
lovers (hey, there might be one or two out there; you never know) to be
able to do one-stop shopping for upcoming events, comedy clips, blogs,
tweets and Facebook information. I’m also really happy with the
tremendous job that Chris Brooker and his people in the UK have done
with their website, which is no small part why this upcoming tour is
looking so good. Newcastle on November 11 is the only show in England
that has tickets remaining, but seats are still available for all three
shows in Ireland. Just go to www.mickfoleystandup.co.uk
for any of those shows AND for additional tours in 2012! Yes, I WILL be
coming back to Europe in 2012 and plan on hitting many of the cities
that people have asked me about: Belfast, Dublin, Cardiff, Birmingham,
returns to London, Glasgow, etc. I truly appreciate the amazing support
I’ve received and will do my very best to entertain each and every
person who attends one of my comedy shows.
Thanks also to
everyone who has bought a ticket to my US shows – past, present and in
the future. The Shane Helms show in Charlotte is shaping up very nicely
indeed, and the strong possibility of having “The Nature Boy”, Ric Flair
in attendance, along with a meet and greet for VIP ticket holders
(available at www.charlottecomedyzone.com)
including The Hurricane, Gunner from Impact, Reby Sky, Jayme Jamison,
CW Anderson and Lodi has given this event a feeling of being a
“Happening” as opposed to “just a show”. I’m not sure what role Ric will
have, if any – I’m just happy with the probability of him being there –
but I just can’t see Ric in the proximity of a live microphone for 90
minutes without some type of interaction.
October 8th at
Governor’s in Levittown is starting to look good, too. I’ve personally
selected @petedavidson , a incredibly gifted 17 year old comic I saw
perform in Staten Island (I met Pete when he was 12, and he’s bringing
the photo to prove it) and @mickthomas , the great Irish story-teller
who got rave reviews after our last gig together at The Brokerage in
Bellmore. I personally selected Tim Gage, an iconic figure in Long
Island comedy to be your host for the evening. Half of my proceeds are
going to www.rainn.org
and there is a good possibility that PBS will be on hand, filming the
show for a story on my volunteer work with RAINN. So come on out, have
some fun, help raise some money for a really good cause..and have a
chance to be on national TV. Tickets start at just $15 and more
information can be found at www.govs.com. See you there.
Thanks again for all the support."
