TNA Impact Wrestling 12.4.2012
Eric Bischoff comes to the ring and starts talking about his legacy in the business and the current storyline with Garett. The fans chant “We don’t care! We Don‘t care!” really loudly and I agree with them.
It’s pretty blatant and shameless nepotism and insulting to so many guys on the TNA roster that Garett is getting a push that they deserve.
Eric’s team at Lockdown, Bully Ray, Gunner, Kazarian and Chris Daniels join Eric in the ring.
Eric says that one team will have the advantage at Lockdown and tonight there will be a “best of three” match series to determine which team will have the advantage.
Garett Bischoff appears on the stage and says that his team are anxious to get their hands on Eric’s team and he brings out Mr Anderson to face Gunner in the first match in the “best of three” series.
Lockdown 1/3 Series Match: Mr Anderson Vs Gunner
Gunner and Anderson brawl around the ring and back inside. Nothing pretty in this, but it was a good brawl.
Anderson stomps Gunner in the corner and doesn’t back up when the referee asks him to, which causes a disqualification. Anderson raises a weary Gunner’s arm as the winner of the match and then kicks him some more before leaving the ring.
Eric Young is backstage, getting ready for his wedding with ODB later tonight. Joseph Park interrupts him to ask about his missing brother. Eric says that he doesn’t know, but the last thing he remembers is Abyss being involved with Immortal. Joseph gives Eric his card and tells him to call him if he thinks of anything.
Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin are in the ring and they cut an excellent promo, challenging Samoa Joe and Brutus Magnus to a shot at the Tag Team Titles.
Magnus and Joe come to the ring. Magnus puts over Sabin’s return and MCMG as a team and accept their challenge for Lockdown. Before both teams start fighting, Mexican America come to the ring and complain about being left out of the title picture before they try to attack both teams. MCMG and Magnus / Joe clear the ring of Mexican America as Impact goes to a break….
Lockdown 2/3 Series Match: Chris Daniels Vs Austin Aries
Great action in this match by two of the best wrestlers in the world, I just wish that it lasted longer.
“This is wrestling!” chant during this match.
Lockdown 2012 promo video…. It looks like it should be a great event, with some excellent matches.
Bobby Roode cuts a world class, passionate promo, calling James Storm an embarrassment to the company and undeserving of being in the same ring as the World Champion.
The steel cage is around the ring and Jeff Hardy tells Kurt Angle that he better be ready for Lockdown. Not one of Hardy’s better promos, but he “pops” the “creatures” with a few short words and leaves.
Eric Young is thinking about the wedding backstage when Sarita and Rosita stop by to try and seduce him. Eric seems impressed with what they offer, but resists them and runs away….
Eric Young & ODB get married in a Steel Cage.
ODB promises to take Eric’s ring music, but not his name and to give him some “Bam” whenever he wants…. Sarita and Rosita start coming to the ring and ask Eric if he wants to be stuck with ODB forever and to take a look at what could be his…. Rosita and Sarita dance for Eric and ask him to make a choice.
ODB tells Eric that she understands she doesn’t have what they have, but they don’t have what she has… and she removes her wedding dress, so she’s just in her underwear. Eric says that ODB is everything he ever wanted and he knows the missing ingredient which would make this perfect…. Eric strips down to his underwear and encourages the fans to clap. …. They continue with the wedding and roll around the ring kissing.
Ric Flair is backstage with Bully Ray, preparing him for the next match….
Roode is backstage and says that Storm wants to see him face to face in the ring tonight. He says that his is personal and he has no problem meeting him in the ring tonight.
Bully Ray Vs AJ Styles
I thought this was a really good TV match. Styles was tripped from the outside, leading to Bully Ray picking up the win.
Hogan comes down to the ring and says that Lethal Lockdown will now be a 5-on-5 match and he wants Bischoff to name the 5th guy on his team. Bischoff thinks that Hogan will be the 5th guy on his team, so he books himself in the match (What kind of sense does this make? Does Bischoff think he has a chance against Hogan and his team in the ring? Shouldn‘t he want his team to actually win the match if he wants to stay in TNA and keep using his own name?). Hogan then goes on to tell Eric that he takes being in control of Impact Wrestling seriously and announces the returning Rob Van Dam as the 5th member of his team.
I really don’t like these Hogan / Bischoff promos and storylines. It’s a real effort to sit through them to be honest. It’s a shame they have so much talent involved now in this nonsense.
Mickie James & Velvet Sky Vs Madison Rayne & Gail Kim
This was a fun little TV match. Velvet picked up the win for her team here after hitting the Facebuster finisher on Madison.
Robert Roode / James Storm in-ring promo segment
This was a great face-to-face between former tag partners and friends, Bobby Roode and James Storm before their match at Lockdown.
This is what pro wrestling booking should look like - two guys with personal issues, delivering passionate promos which mean something.
Roode says that they were never friends and always hated each other, while Storm says that family and friendship mattered to him.
This was a really heated segment which I thought did well to push their match at Lockdown.
Overall, this was a fair TNA Impact, hurt especially by Hogan’s involvement and the current Eric Bischoff / Garett Bischoff storyline and segments.
