TNA Impact Wrestling Review 5.1.2012
Taz & Tenay welcome us to the Impact Zone...
Robert Roode / Sting Promo
Good opening segment to start the show.
Robert Roode talks about out-smarting Jeff Hardy at Genesis and
Sting joins him in the ring to book the rematch for the World
Heavyweight Title as the main event tonight.
Matt Morgan & Crimson Vs Robbie E & Robbie T
This was basically an enhancement match for the champions and didn't last long, with Morgan and Crimson taking the win.
After the match, Samoa Joe and Brutus Magnus attacked the tag champs and left them laying in the ring.
This was fine, but I still don't like the pairing of Samoa Joe and Brutus Magnus.
Doug Williams and Magnus made a good enough team with British Invasion and I think Samoa Joe should be in the singles ranks.
Gunner / Garett Bischoff video package airs, highlighting their history.
Eric Bischoff comes to the ring and cuts a good promo on Garett.
Even though this was a good promo, I would much rather that the time
was spent on other talent in the company instead of this father / son
storyline.
Garett comes to the ring to face his dad and tells him that he will
not give up on his dreams of being a pro wrestler. He says that Eric
would be shocked to find out who his trainer is.... Eric tries to grab
Garett, but Garett shoves his father up against the turnbuckles and
leaves the ring.
Angelina and Winter are backstage and plan on making people remember who they are again....
Eric Young & ODB video package airs, showing their history over the last few weeks....
ODB (With Eric Young) Vs Winter (With Angelina Love)
Eric Young was pretty hilarious in this match as always.
ODB was victorious and pinned Winter, after Eric cleared the ring of Angelina, who had attempted to interfere in the match.
Backstage after his match with Roode at Genesis, Jeff Hardy explains
how the match was the hardest he has been able to work in a while, due
to him dealing with neck and back injuries. He thinks the ending of his
match with Roode was bullshit (Roode hit a low blow on the referee,
causing a DQ to save his Title).
Jeff hopes that he gets another shot at the World Title....
Also backstage after his match at Genesis, Roode says that he did
what he said he would do, which is keep the World Title. He calls
himself the most selfish person in the world and that he will do
everything he can to remain the champion throughout 2012.
He talks about beating James Storm, AJ Styles and now Jeff Hardy. He
doesn't need friends and family, he just needs the World Title.
AJ Styles comes to the ring and calls out Kazarian. He wants answers
for Kazarian's actions last week (Kaz dropped from the ring when AJ
Styles wanted the tag and left with Chris Daniels, causing them to lose
their tag match and shot at the tag titles).
Kazarian says that he can't tell AJ Styles why he did what he did
last week before Chris Daniels joins them in the ring and tells Styles
that Kaz sees him as a loser and a lost cause.
Daniels calls Styles a worthless piece of shit and tells Kazarian to
leave the ring. Styles throws his mic at Daniels as he tries to walk
away and attacks him, before Kazarian pulls Daniels out of the ring,
saving him from Styles.....
I thought this was a great segment.
Kurt Angle is backstage and gloats about his win over James Storm at Genesis.
Highlights of the Abyss / Bully Ray Monster's Ball match from Genesis are shown...
Bully Ray and Bobby Roode are backstage making a deal. Bully Ray
agress to have Roode's back if he gets a shot at the World Title....
James Storm comes to the ring and asks for a rematch with Kurt Angle.
Angles comes to the ring and says that he isn't on Impact to have a
match, after his win over Storm he wants a shot at the World Title.
Sting comes to the ring and books a rematch for after the break and
the winner of that match will be the No.1 contender to the World Title.
Kurt Angle Vs James Storm
No.1 Contender match
They have a great match. I liked this better than their match at Genesis.
For the finish, Angle drinks some of James Storm's beer and spits it
into Storm's face before he kicks him in the head just like at Genesis,
but he only gets a 2 count on The Cowboy. James Storm catches Angle in
his Codebreaker move and follows it up with the Last Call Superkick to
get another clean pin on Angle.
Jeff Hardy is walking towards the entrance ramp and says that
tonight is the night when he ends Roode's reign as World Champion...
Madison Rayne tells Sting backstage that she wants to be the VP of
the knockouts. Sting says that he can't do that for her, after her
actions over the last few weeks, but he instead books a cage match
between Madison and Mickie James for next week's show.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Bobby Roode Vs Jeff Hardy
Jeff is looking very cool with some new contact lenses (Either that or I've just not noticed them before).
After a great back and forth battle, Jeff Hardy finally hits the
Twist Of Hate / Swanton Bomb combo, but Bully Ray pulls the referee out
of the ring and takes him out, before he can count Roode's shoulders
down for a 3 count.
Hardy springboards into Bully Ray on the outside, but the with the
referee unconcious, the match match is over and Roode is still the TNA
WOrld Champion.
Overall, I thought this was a really good show, which featured an
excellent promo segment (Styles / Kaz & Daniels), some good promos
(Kurt / Storm, Roode / Sting) as well as a couple of great TV matches
(The Kurt Angle Vs James Storm and Jeff Hardy vs Robert Roode).
