TNA Impact Wrestling Quick Thoughts 15th September 2011

I didn’t get a chance to review Impact last week, so here are just some quick thoughts….

Fortune cut a great promo in the ring, supporting the new No.1 contender to Kurt Angle’s World Title.
All other members of Fortune say that they support Roode and know he can win the Title.
Kurt Angle comes to the ring and tries to cause some dissention between them….
Great segment.

I loved everything about the Jeff Hardy backstage promos with AJ Styles and Devon, where he asked them for forgiveness.
Devon said that he was angry about what Jeff Hardy did at Victory Road, but as he has been up and down the road with Hardy and been friends with him for years, he would give him another chance… but it would be his last chance.

Bobby Roode Vs Kazarian was an awesome match, I loved it and can’t say enough good things about both those guys.

A really good Samoa Joe Profile video aired.

Ric Flair Vs Sting, while this was technically a great match, it was good to see these two Legends in the ring against each other one last time and it wasn’t as bad as many would expect.
To compare it to WWE, it was a lot better than any match on WWE TV that week. Seriously.
What, you think Bret Hart and John Cena Vs Alberto Del Rio & Ricardo was better? Geez…. You’re crazy.

TNA Impact Wrestling Thoughts 22nd September 2011

Sting and Hogan open the show with an in-ring promo. Hogan tries to get out of the match at Bound For Glory by saying that he isn’t able to work the match. Sting shows footage of Hogan beating down Sting with a Steel Chair. Eric Bischoff comes to the ring and gets punched to the ground by Sting.

Mickie James and Miss Tessmaucher have a solid, little TV match.

Backstage, Al Snow tells Jeff Hardy to not make the same mistake again and says he will be there for him if Jeff needs his help.

Austin Aries Vs Jesse Sorensen

Austin Aries amazes in the ring as always. Aries has been one of my favourite guys to watch over the last 8 years.
Kid Kash comes to the ring and distracts Jesse Sorensen, leading to Austin Aries scoring the pinfall.

It speaks volumes about what WWE look for in a “performer” when they denied Austin Aries a chance to be on WWE’s Tough Enough series - but yet they think it’s acceptable for David Otunga to be winning Titles on Raw. It would be absolutely hilarious if it wasn’t so damn depressing and pathetic.
Is there anyone in the world who would rather watch Otunga over Austin Aries?
This one small example of how out of touch Vince McMahon and the WWE office are.

While Mexico America are in a tattoo parlour about to have a new tattoo, they are jumped by Ink Inc and a brawl breaks out.
Jesse Neal puts Hernandez through a table before both Shannon Moore and Jesse Neal beat down Anarquia and push the camera away as they are about to do their own tattoo on him….
Cool, creative segment

Matt Morgan cuts a brilliant promo on Jeff Hardy backstage about giving him one last chance.
Brilliant.  I love these serious promos, with the shaky camera kinda sneaking through the blinds or a crack in the doorway, rather than the blatant “Let’s cut a comedy promo right in front of the fixed TV camera” promos which are just too fake looking to take seriously even if you ignored the comedy.

Rob Van Dam has been found laid out backstage on top of a chair….

Jeff Hardy confronts Kurt Angle backstage and they deliver another brilliant, intense promo on each other.
Kurt Angle tells Jeff that no one wants him back in TNA, Jeff says “Who are you to judge me?” - playing on the fact that Angle himself has had drug problems in the past. Jeff says that the reason Angle doesn’t want him around is because he is the biggest threat to Kurt’s World Title….

Kurt Angle heads to the ring and invites Bobby Roode to join him….
Kurt Angle calls out James Storm to confront Bobby Roode… but James Storm double-crosses Angle and a match is set between them for later tonight.
Great, original promo segment which featured the line “Why don’t you get on your knees and stroke my beer bottle” by James Storm to Kurt Angle.  Haha. Kurt Angle’s promo work and facial expressions are second to none, but James Storm and Bobby Roode both held their own and came across as Angle’s equals.
Great work by all three guys.

Mr Anderson Vs Jerry Lynn & Bully Ray

Due to RVD being in no condition to perform from the backstage attack earlier, this match is a handicap match….
Lynn & Bully Ray beat down Anderson two on one.  Jerry Lynn does a roll into an eye poke in the corner on Anderson which was pretty cool and another forward roll, into a back kick - to mimic RVD’s offence but put a little insult twist on it, while toying with Anderson at the same time.
Anderson fights back near the end of the match, but Bully Ray nails him with a chain and scores the 3 count.

Chris Daniels and AJ Styles have a great in-ring promo segment, which develops into a brawl. Kazarian comes out to stop them from fighting , but Chris Daniels gets in a quick low blow kick to AJ and leaves the ring, spitting on Styles on his way….

AJ Styles is backstage throwing up from the effects of the nut shot he took from Daniels in the last segment.

Kurt Angle Vs James Storm

Double leg takedown by Storm, Angle rolls out and takes Storm’s back with a gut wrench hold. Storm reaches the ropes to break the hold.
Angle goes for a boot to the midsection which is caught by Storm, he nails Kurt with a couple of punches, a couple of textbook arm drags and slaps on a headlock. Angle gets out of the headlock, Storm hits a shoulder block off the ropes and catches Angle in another headlock.
Angle stands up and steps on Storm’s leg to get out of the headlock, reverses it to a headlock of his own and then an uppercut forearm. Angle charges at Storm but is backdropped over the top rope. Storm rams Angle into the steel railing outside. Angle blocks his head from going into the steel steps and slams Storm’s head into the steps instead. Angle breaks the count in the ring, slides back to the outside and does a perfect belly-to-belly suplex on James Storm on the ramp outside the ring.
Angle throws Storm back in the ring and slaps on a standing chin lock, forcing his knee into the back of Storm. Storm powers out of the move with elbows, but is caught coming off the ropes with a knee to his mid-section.
Kurt Angle gets a reverse gut wrench on James Storm, but Storm powers out again, rebounding off the ropes, James ducks the clothesline and both men go for a cross body and collide in the middle of the ring.
Both men reach their feet and Storm blocks a punch from Angle and nails a couple of his own, he hits an inverted atomic drop and a couple of clotheslines on Angle. Angle reverses an Irish Whip, but James Storm reverses that and hit’s a Backstabber on Angle for a 2 count.
James Storm punches and chops Angle in the corner and Irish whips him across the ring, Angle stops a charging Storm with his boots to his face and hits another beautiful Belly-To-Belly Suplex for a 2 count.
Kurt goes for an Angle slam, but it’s reversed, James Storm looks like he’s going for a Powerbomb, but Angle reverses it into the ankle lock. James Storm tries to kick out of the move, but Angle relentlessly holds onto it and Storm looks like he’s going to tap, but finally reverses it into a pin for a near fall.
Kurt charges at James Storm in the corner, but ends up going shoulder-first into the ring post. Quick roll up by James Storm only gets a 2 count.
James Storm slams Kurt Angle in the middle of the ring and signals for the Last Call Superkick, which is blocked by Angle. Angle hit three big textbook German Suplexes by on James Storm.
Angle goes for the cover and gets a 2 count.
Kurt goes to the top rope and for a big moonsault, but James Storm moves out of the way, just in time. While Angle is recovering in the ring, James Storm goes to the top rope, but Angle runs up the turnbuckles to go for his big Belly-To-Belly Suplex from the top rope, James Storm blocks it and punches Angle back down into the ring.
James Storm lands the big elbow drop from the top rope on Angle for a 2 count.
Both guys exchange right hands, James Storm gets Angle up for Eye Of The Storm, but Angle gets out of the move.. Gunner comes to the ring and distracts James Storm,. Angle nails Storm with the Angle Slam, but Storm kicks out on 2.
Angle slaps James Storm and face palms him.
James Storm fires back with the super kick, but Angle moves out of the way and Storm nails the referee instead.  Storm reverses an Angle slam attempt by Angle with an arm drag and finally hits the Super Kick on Angle and goes for the pin, but the referee is down and can’t count the 3 count.
Gunner jumps into the ring and attacks James Storm, but Robert Roode comes down and clears Gunner from the ring. He picks up the World Title and holds it in the air before laying it at Angle’s feet.
Angle picks up the Title and leaves the ring, looking concerned that he might lose it to Robert Roode at Bound For Glory.
