TNA Impact! 29.11.2011
Opening package airs, with Robert Roode’s family and friends calling him selfish… I thought this was great. I can’t think of a time that we’ve had words from the family of a wrestler who has turned heel before.
It makes perfect sense though, especially as we heard their opinions on Roode’s climb to the TNA World Title in the build up to Bound For Glory.
Sting comes to the ring and calls out Bobby Roode…. Roode comes to the ring in a suit. Sting tells Roode that there are consequences for his recent actions and he calls out AJ Styles. Roode says he sees how it works, that Styles has Sting on his side. Sting says there are more consequences and Jeff Hardy comes to the ring….
Jeff Hardy tells Roode that he and Styles respect Sting and his decisions. Roode says Screw Sting and screw his decisions. Sting says screw Roode and tonight there will be a triple threat match between Roode, Hardy and AJ Styles… Roode heads down the ramp unhappy about the match….
Karen is backstage in the parking area with the TNA Knockouts. She informs them that as they didn’t follow her instructions last week to wear skimpy outfits last week, they are being made to wash wrestler’s cars tonight, wearing lingerie….
Robert Roode video package airs…
Jeff Hardy and Jeff Jarrett brawl backstage, with Hardy getting the better of Jarrett…
Eric Bischoff tells Bully Ray that he doesn’t want his son Eric becoming a wrestler, but before he sets Bully Ray on him, he wants Ray to deal with Abyss. Ray tells Eric that no one has ever no-sold a table spot before, he doesn’t know what he can do with him. Eric tells him to try talking to Abyss. Bully Ray says that he will speak with Steiner and maybe they can both try speaking with Abyss….
Robert Roode’s family talk about how he isn’t the same guy anymore since turning heel….
No.1 Contenders tag match….
Devon & The Pope Vs Mexican America Vs Ink Inc
Devon and The Pope win the match and become No.1 Contenders.
I thought Devon looked especially impressive in the match.
X Division Champion, Austin Aries comes to the ring and says that he has beat everyone in the X Division and they should re-name it the Double-A division… Kid Kash comes to the ring and challenges Aries to a Title match. He reminds Aries about how he was double-crossed by him at Turning Point. Aries reminds Kash that although he has been in the business for 20 years that he too is a veteran and has worked around the world too… Aries tells Kash that if he shakes his hand, he will accept his challenge and give him a shot at the title…. They shake hands but both cheap-shot each other, before Austin leaves the ring and heads to the back…
AJ Styles backstage promo on Roode and the triple threat match later tonight….
Gunner goes into a gym looking for Garett Bischoff. He beats down the guys in the gym who know Garett and leaves a message for them to give him when they see him, which is that Gunner is coming for him…
Jeff Jarrett is backstage with Sting. Jarrett complains to Sting about Jeff Hardy being in no condition to perform at Victory Road and not respecting the TNA World Title. Sting tells Jarrett that he has skeletons in his closet himself and to keep in mind that if he interferes in Jeff Hardy’s match tonight, there will be consequences to pay…. Jarrett says that he may be willing to pay the consequence….
Robert Roode’s wife explains how their kids are asking why their father is cheating, why he turned his back on his friend and partner and why he has been making the decisions he has been making recently. Roode’s wife says that she tells their kids that their dad is in the wrong…. They say that they don’t see much of Robert Roode since he won the TNA World Title…
The Knockouts are backstage in their bikinis washing the cars that Karen told them too…
Bully Ray is talking to Scott Steiner backstage. He asks Steiner what to do to take out Abyss…
Steiner tells Bully Ray that Abyss is a hot blooded man and hot blooded men like women, “freaks” in fact…
Steiner says that he has some freaks backstage that he thinks Abyss will be into…
Street Fight: ODB Vs Mickie James
They have a good, short street fight match, with Mickie winning after kicking the chair ODB was holding into her face and getting the 3 count in the ring.
(UK-only promo) Bully Ray is backstage and he cuts an amazing promo on the UK fans… great stuff, Bully Ray is always awesome. The best promo guy in the business.
James Storm joins Impact via satellite and Kurt Angle joins Taz and Tenay at the commentary table… Angle asks Storm how it feels to be at home with the concussion he caused. Storm tells him he’ll show Angle what it’s like when he returns. They have a good, heated short promo segment.
This reminded me of the kind of thing Russo would book in the WWF during his days there, where Austin and Shawn, Bret and Shawn, etc would do similar kind of segments…. when Raw was used to be good.
Scott Steiner’s “freaks” are backstage, about to go into Abyss’ locker room…
Robert Roode’s family talk about him snapping and taking the short cut to win the World Title.
Robert responds that he is putting food on the table and doing what he wants to do to make it to the top of the selfish generation.
TV Title: Robbie E Vs Rob Van Dam
RVD looks great as always. Eric Young comes to ringside to stop Rob Terry getting involved in the match, while the referee is distracted, Chris Daniels slides into the ring and hits the Angel’s Wings on RVD, leading to Robbie E getting the 3 count.
The “freaks” who Steiner sent to see Abyss seem to come out of his dressing room, looking like a mess…
Backstage the Knockouts are cleaning cars in their bikinis before they break out into a fight….
Gail Kim hoses them all down….
To be honest, I find this whole thing is just degrading to the Knockouts. Not good.
Robert Roode Vs Jeff Hardy Vs AJ Styles
This is a really good triple threat main event.
At the end of the match, Jeff Hardy is about to go for the Swanton Bomb on Roode, but Jarrett pushes him off the top rope and Roode rolls on top of him to get the win.
Sting meets Jarrett on the ramp and tells him that his match against Jeff Hardy at Final Resolution will be a steel cage match, the only way to win is to escape the cage and that he will be handcuffed to Karen at ringside to make sure that she does not interfere in the match.
Overall, I thought this was a good Impact, although there were some things I really liked and other things I didn’t like.
The things I didn’t like:
The Knockouts being degraded backstage…. When you want fans to respect them and you want them to make your company money as serious athletes, this was just a stupid thing to do. I didn’t like it at all.
Although I really like Devon and The Pope and can see them become a good team until they split (their break up has been teased for a while now), I don’t like that TNA’s once strong tag division has crumbled so much that TNA don’t really have a proper tag division anymore.
The things I liked:
The Angle / Storm promo segment was very good.
The Knockout Street Fight was fine.
I loved the reactions by Robert Roode’s family on his heel turn and actions recently.
The main event Triple Threat was a good TV main event match.
Bully Ray’s promos were awesome as always.
Looking forward to the Kid Kash / Austin Aries feud and matches. I like how both of these guys are heels going into the feud and they both tried to cheap-shot each other. I like that Aries isn’t afraid of meeting Kash in the ring. Both of these guys are great and I have high expectations for their matches.
