TNA Impact Wrestling, Thursday 29th December 2011
Madison Rayne and Gail Kim are in the ring. Madison calls out Tara and Tessmacher and fires them for their actions last week.
Sting’s music hits and he gets into the ring. He mimics Madison with her high, screeching voice and tells her that she has no power to do that and he has booked Gail Kim to defend her Knockout Title against Mickie James later tonight.
Backstage, Scott Steiner tells Abyss that he needs him to be a monster and they could be the best team…
Wild Card Tag Team Tournament Semi Final
Scott Steiner & Abyss Vs AJ Styles & Kazarian
Great work by all guys in the match, I really enjoyed this.
Leading to the end of the match, Abyss turned against Steiner and hit a Black Hole Slam on him before Kazarian took the 3 count.
Bully Ray comes to the ring to helps Steiner. He shouts at Abyss as Impact goes to break…
Back from the break, Bully Ray cuts a promo on Abyss and being tired of him being a bully to Steiner and himself…
Bully Ray asks Abyss what he wants in order for him to re-join Immortal.
Abyss says that he wants Bully Ray in a 1-on-1 match at Genesis and if Bully Ray wins then he will return to Immortal. Abyss also says that it will be a Monster’s Ball match.
That should be great.
Kurt Angle and Sting are talking backstage.
Sting tells Angle he wants him to have a match later tonight against Rob Van Dam.
Kurt Angle doesn’t want the match…
Ric Flair is backstage with Gunner and puts him over as a “real bad man”.
Gunner points to an ambulance backstage and he says that it is going to be the 3rd time that he sends someone away in an ambulance. Flair says that Gunner is going to be “the man”.
Austin Aries joins Tenay and Taz on commentary for the next match
Match 3/3 In the Best Of 3 Series: Contract On A Pole Match
Zema Ion Vs Anthony Neese
These guys have another impressive, fast paced match.
Zema Ion manages to get the contract and he will face Kid Kash, Jesse Sorensen and the X Division Champion, Austin Aries at Genesis.
Excellent Genesis promo airs, promoting Roode / Hardy and Angle / Storm
Great promos by the World Champion Robert Roode.
Doug Williams Vs Gunner (With Ric Flair)
Highlights are shown before the match of Gunner taking out Garett Bischoff and Jesse Neal in previous weeks….
Gunner gets DQ’d after a couple of minutes for shoving the referee down. Doug Williams gets thrown to the outside. Ric Flair strikes Doug with a low blow and lifts the ringside mat to expose the cement, where Gunner hits the DDT on Williams.
I hope this doesn’t put Doug Williams out too long…
Bobby Roode comes to the ring and cuts a strong promo about being the “Leader Of The Selfish Generation.”
Roode calls out his personal long-time friend, Tracy and gives him a microphone. Tracy says that he misses his friend and Roode’s wife is missing her husband, Roode’s kids are asking for him. He tells Roode to come home and make it right.
Roode ends up taking his friend down by the throat and putting the boots to him in the corner before Jeff Hardy makes the save in a heated segment.
Roode is such a great talent and I hope he holds onto the World Title for a long time.
ODB and Eric Young are backstage before their match. ODB is reminding Eric that it’s a business relationship they have and not a personal one…
Kurt Angle cuts a great promo backstage on RVD. He doesn’t want the match because RVD kicked him in the face and cut him hardway 10 years ago (In WWECW).
Wild Card Tag Team Title Tournament Semi-Final
Samoa Joe & Brutus Magnus Vs Eric Young & ODB
After what was basically a comedy match, Brutus Magnus really seemed to destroy ODB with a vicious shot which knocked her face first into the corner and Joe catches Eric with the Muscle Buster for the win.
AJ Styles and Kazarian will meet Magnus and Samoa Joe in the final of the Tournament.
Mickie James cuts a promo on being ready for her Knockout Title match tonight against Gail Kim….
Kurt Angle Vs Rob Van Dam
These guys are two of my favourite guys in the history of the business and their work was excellent here.
This was a good, but short, TV match, which was interrupted by James Storm, who came into the ring as Kurt had applied his ankle lock on RVD and knocked him out with his Last Call Super Kick.
I hope that before either guy leaves the company, I get to see a long Kurt Angle / RVD feud. That would just be a dream feud to me.
Back from the break, RVD is backstage and says that he wanted to win the match tonight and was disappointed that James Storm got involved.
Kurt Angle says that James Storm’s 2 previous wins over him didn’t count, as he cheated, but he vows to win their 3rd match at Genesis.
TNA Knockout Title
Gail Kim Vs Mickie James
This was a really great knockout match and main event for Impact Wrestling.
Leading to the finish, Madison Rayne came to the ring and attacked Mickie from behind, before Gail Kim took the 3 count on a fallen Mickie.
Overall, I thought this was a great Impact show.
No Hogan, No Bischoff or Bischoff Jnr which is was a big help and there was very good action in the ring and some brilliant promos too.
I thought this was one of the better Impact Wrestling shows I’ve seen in a while.
