TNA Impact Wrestling Thoughts (US Air date: 8.9.2011)

Mr Anderson comes to the ring and cuts a promo on Kurt Angle and Immortal.
He introduces Sting to watch his back.
Sting comes to the ring and announces that “The Network” have given him the right to be the special enforcer for the Kurt Angle Vs Mr Anderson match later tonight.

I liked the promo work by both guys, but I'm not personally a fan of all "The network" stuff and how it is being used.
I wouldn't mind it being used in a more realistic manner, but I don't get "the network" giving power to certain guys on different shows and things like that.
I don't like the whole Hogan & Bischoff / Dixie Carter power struggle either. I think the whole thing is stupid and wish it would end soon.
I'd rather focus on feuds which can be resolved in the ring, between pro wrestlers, in good matches.

British Invasion Vs The Pope & Devon
The winners of this match go on to No Surrender to challenge for the Tag Team Titles.
Some really good action in this short TV match. Devon hits his Spinebuster on Doug Williams for the win.

Bully Ray & Gunner are in the ring with Beer Money
Bully Ray cuts an impassioned promo, he puts over Beer Money as a team and tries to create dissention between them, asking what would happen to the team if one guy gets the World Title and the other one doesn't?
Robert Roode cuts a great promo in return and responds with confidence that no matter what happens, Beer Money will share in the victory and nothing will ever come between their bond and kill them as a team.

Bellator Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez made an appearance backstage and on commentary for the next match....

TV Title: Eric Young Vs Robbie E
This was a solid, but short match.
Rob Terry came to the ring afterwards and powerbombed Eric Young in the ring.
Robbie was asking Rob Terry to be his bodyguard last week on Impact. I'm hoping this means that Rob Terry will be Robbie's bodyguard and not that this will lead to Rob Terry having any matches again on TV.
Rob Terry is the worst guy on the roster by far. He's Cena-level bad in the ring. Thankfully he hasn’t had much time to be fully exposed the way Cena has and I hope it stays that way. I think a bodyguard / non-wrestling role for him would be ideal.

Bully Ray and Robert Roode are featured in a video package putting over how determined they are to win the Bound For Glory series and challenge for the World Title at BFG

Rob Van Dam finds Jerry Lynn backstage and Lynn starts to explain to RVD how he was always overlooked in their previous matches and feud and admits to screwing RVD. Rob leaves Lynn laying in his locker room.

Velvet tells Mickie James backstage that she would like to hold the KO Title one day.....

World Title: Kurt Angle Vs Mr Anderson

This was a good TV match.
For the finish, Sting pulls the referee out of the ring to distract him from Angle pinning Mr Anderson.
Mr Anderson recovers, hits the Mic Check on Angle and the referee slides into the ring and hits a count of 2, before Gunner hits the ring to interrupt the pin, causing Angle to be DQ'd.
Immortal head to the ring and beat down Sting and Mr Anderson.

Winter & Angelina Vs Velvet & Mickie James
This was a fair women's tag match. Winter sprayed the red mist into Mickie's eyes again and scored the pin.

Austin Aries and Brian Kendrick have a great in-ring promo segment.
I'm really looking forward to this feud. I hope to see quite a few matches between these guys and I like the dynamic between the two very different characters too.
These guys are both great talents and I’d like to see a lot more time dedicated to their feud on Impact each week.

Backstage, Hogan is happy about beating down Sting and Mr Anderson. Eric Bischoff says that he has heard from the Network that they have booked Kurt Angle Vs Sting Vs Mr Anderson at No Surrender....

All this network / Hogan & Bischoff / Dixie Carter stuff needs to stop

Bully Ray Vs Gunner Vs James Storm Vs Robert Roode
Samoa Joe starts coming to the ring, presumably to attack all 4 guys, but Matt Morgan attacks Joe on the outside and leaves him laying at ringside.

After a good little TV match, Gunner double-crossed Bully Ray and pinned him after hitting him with a running knee.

A video airs, promoting Impact Wrestling next week - Sting Vs Ric Flair, if Sting wins, he gets to face Hogan at Bound For Glory.

Jeff Hardy In-ring return promo

Jeff comes to the ring and cuts an emotional promo. Jeff apologises to fans and the wrestlers in the back for his last appearance in the company when let everyone down.
Although he can't expect anyone to forgive him, he asks everyone to give him one more shot....
The fans chant "One More Shot" and give him a standing ovation to end Impact this week.

This wasn’t the best Impact, but it was fine.

TNA record 2 Impact Wrestling shows on the same day, so I do find that there is usually one show out of the pair which ends up being the better show.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Bound For Glory Series matches at No Surrender and hopefully they will use this as a chance to push Bobby Roode into a headline position.

I’m actually looking forward to watching Sting Vs Ric Flair next week…. I know it wont be a great match - but this is probably the last time we will ever get to see these two legends in the same ring with each other.

Kurt Angle is a machine. It's amazing to think he's competing at such a high level in 2011. It was 2003 when all reports were that Angle needed to retire and was in really bad shape backstage, even trying to walk around.
The rumours were that he was even on "death watch" for a while, during his last months in WWE.
Here we are 8 years later and Kurt Angle is still the best wrestler in the world.
Cutting great promos and having great matches every single week.
Every time I see Kurt Angle, it's evident that I'm watching the very best in the business.
