TNA Turning Point 2011 Thoughts
TNA Wrestling presents Turning Point 2011
Tenay and Taz welcome us to the PPV.
Television Championship Match:
Eric Young (champion) Vs Robbie E
These guys just have an average little match. Rob Terry takes Eric Young down from outside the ring and Robbie pins him to win the TV Championship.
This match was nothing special and it had a flat finish.
Not a great way to start the show.
Tag Team Championship Match:
Mexican America and Sarita vs Ink Inc and Toxxin
Another average match. This time, Sarita hit Toxxin in the back of the head with one of the Tag Titles behind the referee's back and scored the pinfall.
Kid Kash and Austin Aries are backstage and they tell Jesse Sorensen that he doesn't stand a chance tonight as they will be working together to take him out....
X Division Championship Match:
Austin Aries (champion) vs Jesse Sorensen vs Kid Kash
Kid Kash looks really impressive, everything he does in the ring looks so crisp and violent. Aries and Kash worked together as planned during the match, with Sorensen managing a couple of big comeback spots. Kid Kash started trying to win the match himself, but Austin Aries kept breaking the count each time.
Aries ran into the ring and caught Kash in a quick roll up to score the surprise pinfall victory. Kid Kash didn't look happy about it and Austin Aries headed down the ramp, holding onto his X Division Title...
Good work from all of these guys, but the storyline of the match (making it into a handicap match for the most part) took something away from it.
AJ Styles cuts a promo on Robert Roode and says he is going to take the Title from him later tonight...
No Disqualification Match:
Rob Van Dam vs Christopher Daniels
Chris Daniels comes to the ring and tries to change the match from a No DQ match to a normal wrestling match... RVD agrees..... They start out wrestling in the ring but the match slowly develops into a hardcore brawl outside the ring. Near the end of the match, Chris Daniels tries to stab RVD with a screwdriver but RVD blocks it with a chair and then hits the Van Damninator and 5 Star Frogsplash on Daniels to get the win.
Great work by both guys and I think they really had a great little match here, I just wish they had more time to do it....
Robbie E cuts a backstage promo and says he will be the Tv Champion for a long time because he is jacked and does what he wants to do...
"Bling equals bitches, so it's time to hit the club"....
Undefeated Streak On The Line:
Crimson vs “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan
I thought the action in this match was better than I expected it to be... but it wasn't great.
They also had a screwy finish to the match as both guys were DQ'd for being "rough" with the referee.
They brawled after the match was over. This wasn't good.
Bully Ray and Scott Steiner backstage promo was pretty funny.
Tag Team Match:
Mr. Anderson and Abyss vs. Bully Ray and Scott Steiner
Scott Steiner was really over with a loud section of the audience who chanted for him throughout the match.
This was good and everyone worked hard.
Abyss scored the win after hitting the Black Hole Slam on Scott Steiner.
After the match, Bully Ray and Steiner beat down Abyss and put him through a table, but Abyss no-sold it and just stood right back up and stared down Steiner and Ray, who decide to escape the ring and head to the back.
Karen Angle, along with Madison and Gail Kim, cut a backstage promo on Velvet Sky, saying that she brought Gail Kim back to represent TNA as the Knockout Champion. She tells Kim to go out to the ring without her at ringside and take the Title away from Velvet....
Women's Knockout Championship Match:
Velvet Sky (Champion) vs Gail Kim
This was a short match which never really had much of a chance to be much more than what it was.
Karen came to the ring after a few minutes, along with Madison. They both intefered in the match.
Gail Kim hit her "Eat The Feet"Finisher on Velvet and pinned her to become the new Knockout Champion.
Backstage, Bully Ray starts questioning Eric Bischoff whether it's the best thing to do to go after Abyss and freaks out about him no-selling the table spot.
Jeff Hardy / Jeff Jarrett video package
Challenge Match:
"The Charismatic Enigma" Jeff Hardy vs "King Of The Mountain" Jeff Jarrett
Jeff Hardy gets into the ring and quickly hits a Twist Of Fate on Jarrett and covers him for a 3 count. Jarrett asks Hardy for another match and Hardy accepts....
They have a good match and Jeff Hardy gets a quick small package on Jarrett to get the pinfall again.
As Hardy is heading down the ramp, Jarrett attacks Hardy with an unprotected chair shot to the head. Jarrett hits the Stroke on Hardy in the ring and tells Hebner to make the count.... before he can reach 3, Hardy reverses the pin into a pin of his own and gets another 3 count on Jarrett.....
After the match, AJ Styles, Eric Young and others backstage shake hands with Hardy to congratulate him on his wins over Jarrett and to show that they accept him back into the company and will give him another chance.
World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Bobby Roode (champion) vs “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles
Bobby Roode cuts a great heel promo on AJ Styles before the match. He calls himself the "leader of the selfish generation" as he did on Impact last week.
Roode and Styles have a really good main event match.
Roode wins by pulling AJ's tights and the win happened pretty suddenly which left the finish feeling a little flat. For some reason the fans in the arena didn't seem very enthusiastic for the match as they were pretty quiet throughout.
Overall this wasn't a great PPV, but it wasn't a bad one either.
The RVD Vs Daniels and Styles Vs Roode matches were both very good and well worth watching. Hardy and Jarrett also had a good match, hurt only by the dodgy booking in having Hardy pin Jarrett 3 times the way they did. In fact, I thought the booking for the whole show was very questionable.
Most matches had interference and / or screwy finishes. I understand them doing this often on TV shows, but on almost every match on a whole PPV is a bit too much.
If this is the first PPV under the control of Bruce Prichard, I actually think that it's a step down from what Vince Russo was doing.
