WWE - Money In The Bank 2011
Here are my thoughts:
I liked the first MITB match - and even more so, the decision to give the MITB to Daniel Bryan. I didn't expect that at all.
Hardly one of the best MITB or ladder matches I've seen, but I enjoyed it. Good match.
I
liked that CM Punk took the title from Cena and Punk's performance in
the match was great - from his playing to the crowd, to the moves he did
- to trying to cover up for Cena's inability to do anything.
While
he was Cena's lame submission, he tried to push Cena's hand closer to
his own face so it didn't look phoney but Cena didn't understand and
kept sliding his hand back down so in the end, Punk tried to hide the
gap with his own hands - He tried his very best with someone who doesn't
belong in the ring, credit to him for that.
I also loved the crowd reaction in the match.
I
don't know how people can say it was a great main event when everyone
in the arena were saying that the FACE in the match couldn't wrestle.
You could have just had CM Punk vs a crash test dummy and the match
would have looked similar, except no one would have hated the crash test
dummy as much.
Sure, it created heat though and made the one-sided match feel important.
Randy
Vs Christian had a screw job finish, with Christian becoming champ
after not being able to beat Orton or even cheat to win the belt.
Christian
looked like he had no chance as Orton kicked him in the nuts in anger
so that Christian - someone much worthier of the strap than Orton -
became fluke champion after a DQ. And to make matters worse.... Orton
beat down Christian twice after the match, he considered doing it a
third time, but just couldn't be bothered.
If the match didn't make
Christian look weak enough, the 2 beat-downs after the match made sure
that all fans saw Christian as weak and a fluke champion as he didn't
stand a chance against Orton.
It's one thing to keep your "Babyface" strong, but it's another to make your heel look impotent and like a jobber.
Other
than that, Orton was a little more lively than usual, so I give him
credit for not sleeping through the match like he usually does.
The
matches these guys had on Smack Down and on PPV recently were much
better than this was. Also, with Smack Down being so low on talent they
are willing to push into the main events - I’m sure we are going to see
this match again and again and again.
And in each match, Christian is
going to be treated like a fluke champion until Orton takes the Title
back, probably this week on Smack Down or the next PPV, knowing WWE,
making this pointless. On the plus side, it was good to see Christian.
The
Second ladder in the bank match was really sloppy. Miz hurt his leg
because he has no business in a wrestling ring. He is not an athlete and
this is what happens when they try to do something out of their usual
kick-punch-chinlock match. R-Truth tried to strike a ladder into
Swagger’s face, but missed, so they just set up the spot again and did
it right the second time.
When Del Rio was supposed to take the belt,
Mysterio’s ladder fell into his and he had to set the ladder up again,
which took a while and all the other guys in the match were hanging
around outside the ring wondering what to do as there was some time to
spare - rather than trying to look like they wanted the MITB…. Despite
these issues as well as other blown spots, the match was still exciting
and I liked it. I understand that things go wrong sometimes and everyone
seemed to try hard, which I appreciate. There was a lot of talent in
this match and I think it helped it a lot that Miz was taken out early.
Hopefully Miz will be off TV for a while - or for good for all I care.
I
don’t have a problem with Alberto winning MITB, but I would have
preferred it to be R-Truth, Swagger, Kofi or Mysterio personally. I
think they all deserve it more.
On the plus side, at least Alberto can work and it wasn’t The Miz or Riley who won. Phew.
Mark
Henry Vs Big Show… I wasn’t even paying attention to this match, but
when I looked up, it looked like you would expect this match to look -
slow and boring and a waste of time.
Kelly Vs Dizzy Bella…. I
wasn’t paying attention to this match either, but I saw Kelly mess up a
face-plant bulldog I think and then hit her finish awkwardly - another
waste of time.
Overall, it was better than the usual WWE PPV but
considering all of the points I’ve mentioned above, I think it was far
from a “great” show. It was okay.
It really does highlight many
problems in the company which could easily be resolved if they gave a
damn. Big Show / Henry and the Kelly Kelly match was booked just to fill
up air-time.
Can you imagine the kind of retarded thinking of the
booking squad to send out Kelly Kelly for a PPV match while they have
Nattie, Gail Kim and Beth doing nothing backstage? - Or why they booked
Big Show Vs Mark Henry while they have guys like DH Smith, Zack Ryder,
Tyson Kidd, Ted Dibiase Jnr, Yoshi Tatsu, Curt Hawkins, Trent Barreta
and many, many other great wrestlers sitting at home doing nothing?
I take this kind of booking as a “Middle finger” to everyone watching.
The
treatment they gave one of their best, most consistent performers,
Christian, was extremely insulting too. Even though they gave him the
World Title. It also cheapens the already-worthless gold strap than
Christian has now.
Thankfully they didn’t do the boring thing and
have Cena retain the WWE Title. Has CM Punk signed a contract
extension? I’m sure he probably has. WWE could go two ways with this -
they could do something interesting or they could have Punk drop the
belt to Cena on Raw tonight before he leaves….
Either way, at
least it made for an interesting end to the show and someone worthy has
that stupid spinner belt. Hopefully it’s the last time we see that
stupid thing and they have some kind of tournament for a new, proper
world title belt…..
